The Asian Koel (Kannada Name - ಕೋಗಿಲೆ) (Eudynamys scolopaceus) is a member of the cuckoo order of birds, the Cuculiformes. It is found in South Asia, China, and Southeast Asia. The Asian Koel is a brood parasite that lays its eggs in the nests of crows and other hosts, who raise its young. The bird is a widely used symbol in Indian poetry.

The family Cuculidae includes
cuckoos,
roadrunners and
anis. These birds are of variable size with slender bodies, long tails and strong legs. Many are
brood parasites. There are 138 species worldwide and 21 species which occur in India and 15 species in Karnataka and I have found 6 in Mysuru.
