Spot-billed Duck - ವರಟೆ - Varate

Story: I was going around Karanji Lake taking birds photos and I had almost reached middle of the Lake's circle, saw a duck moving and went nearby to see the amazing view of mother and chicks. I was fast enough to capture the moment and very much happy when it came out to be one of my best click.

The spot-billed duck (Kannada Name - ವರಟೆ - Varate) (Anas poecilorhyncha) sometimes referred to as the spotbill, is a dabbling duck which breeds in tropical and eastern Asia. It has three populations, treated here as subspecies, the Indian spot-billed duck (A. poecilorhyncha poecilorhyncha), Eastern spot-billed duck (A. poecilorhyncha zonorhyncha), and Burmese spot-billed duck (A. poecilorhyncha haringtoni). Some authors elevate the eastern population as a species, Anas zonorhyncha. The name is derived from the yellow and red spot on the bill. Wiki
